WAPPING HIGH SCHOOL
FESTIVAL OF CODE
MONDAY 31ST July – FRIDAY 4TH August, 10AM – 4PM.
We’re back. For the eighth time we will be running the Festival of Code at Wapping High School. The event is for children and young people aged 10 – 18.
During the week participants will be supported by industry mentors to build computer programs, computer games and websites. This event offers young people a uniquely immersive experience to learn more about coding and digital industries. There will also be workshops for everyone to get hands-on with different, new and emerging technology. The event will culminate on Friday afternoon with an opportunity to showcase what has been built to parents, mentors, press, industry and expert judges.
Festival of Code is run entirely by volunteers. It is not a taught event, neither a summer childcare club, but rather an opportunity for enthusiastic young people to improve their computer programming and graphic design skills under the guidance of industry experts. Complete beginners, as well as confident coders and designers, are all welcome. The event will also provide the opportunity for our future coders to gain confidence working alongside adults and learn more about possible careers in the fields of engineering and technology. By working together and sharing knowledge, participants will validate their digital skills, learn about teamwork and communication.

Over the course of 5 days participants will work together in small groups to create anything they want: games, robots, websites and anything else you can think of. A number of mentors with many different skill sets will then help teach the coders anything they need to know. On top of this we also run a number of workshops, to teach more crucial skills and show attendees new and better ways to program.
We will be looking for people with expertise in Scratch, Microbits, Python, HTML, CSS, C# or Unity, and Java. If you are interested in helping out at Festival of Code please register below.
Venue: Wapping High School, 153-157 Commercial Road, London E1 2DA
Participants need to bring a packed lunch and snacks from Monday to Thursday.
Water, squash and fruit will be provided every day.
Parents are asked to make a contribution of food for the celebration lunch on Friday.
We recommend that participants bring their own laptops to use during the week. A limited number of Chromebooks may be available to borrow.
